MAN - Metropolitan Area Network

A Metropolitan Area Network is a computer network that spans over large geographical locations as compared to LAN. It can cover a large campus or even a whole city. The network size of MAN lies between LAN and WAN. A MAN might be owned and operated by a single organization, but most companies rent or lease circuits from common carriers.

Implementation
A MAN usually interconnects several LANs using WAN technologies such as  Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), FDDI, microwave, radio, or infra-red laser links and SMDS.
