SWAT - Special Weapons And Tactics


"Special Weapons And Tactics" is a specialized team of police officers trained to handle operations which fall outside the capabilities of normal police officers. The FBI of United State of America (USA) maintains these SWAT teams at each of its field offices throughout the country.

Such units are often equipped with specialized firearms and equipments which may not be allowed to carried by a normal uniform police officer. It includes sniper rifles, submachine guns, breaching shotguns, assault rifles, and specialized equipments like advanced night vision optics, heavy body armor, armored vehicles, ballistic shields etc.

SWAT teams are trained to handle wide range of situations from confidential to the most critical one. It includes:-

  • High-risk events like hostage and barricade situations
  • Aircraft Hijackings
  • High risk arrests
  • Hostage rescue
  • Anti-Terrorist Activity
  • Site surveys for high visibility events
