Gbps - Gigabits Per Second

Gigabits per second is the measurement unit that measures the data speed of the modern hardware or a network device, such as a Switch, Ethernet port, hard drive (usually SATA drive) or a digital data transmission medium such as optical fiber.

1 Gbps equals 1 billion bits of data transmitted per second. It is mainly used to measure the speed of the high speed modern hardware or a networking device. For older devices with lower speed, data transfer speed is still measured in Mbps or kbps.
